      Tuskegee University Youth Goat Show

Dear Exhibitors:
 
With much pride and enthusiasm, we, the Tuskegee University Pre Vet Club, are inviting all 4-H, FFA members and those who are willing, and meet the minimum age category to participate at the first ever-organized Goat Show at the Tuskegee University Goat Research Unit, Tuskegee Alabama. The competition is scheduled on Saturday, October 27, 2007. The check in/weigh in will begin at 10:00 and ends at 12:00 PM. The show will commence at 1:00 PM. The show will consist of breeding classes, market classes and showmanship only. As per USDA regulations, USDA Premise ID is required to participate.
 
Since this is the first attempt by the Prevet Club, we have opened the show to 4-H, FFA members as well as those who meet the minimum age category. Exhibitors must be 9 years old by January 1, 2007 to be eligible to participate. All exhibitors must be born in calendar year 1997 or earlier.
 
We would like to remind our exhibitors that the Tuskegee University Goat Research Unit does not have any holding facilities, any washing facilities, or electricity available for your use. We also do NOT have any shades, so please come prepared on your own should you require these facilities. There are no fast food vendors at the unit. The closest food vendors are located within about 3 miles from the unit.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
§          Open to 4-H and FFA members, born in calendar year 1997 or earlier or others who meet the minimum age category.
§          USDA Premise ID is required to show.
§          Entries must be postmarked by Monday, October 22. Late entries will be charged double the stated amount. There will be no refunds for entry fees.
§          Check-in (and weigh-in for Breeder/Market classes) will be from 10:00 to 12:00 P.M., Saturday October 27, 2007.
§          A doe kid may be shown in both Breeding and a Market class by paying an entry fee for each class.
§          Exhibitors must provide their own power for air conditioning units, blowers, fans, etc.
§          Animals must be shown in natural form without alterations due to surgical or use of drugs, etc.
§          All goats will be subject to inspection, suspect animals will not be allowed in the facilities nor will they be allowed to show.
§          The attending veterinarian has the professional responsibility and absolute authority to remove any goat(s) from the show that they considered a potential health risk to other animals. In addition, the attending veterinarian will check health papers such as Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.
GOAT Showmanship: $5.00 entry
§          There will be three divisions (based on the showman’s age as of January 1, 2007).
1.        Senior (15 years and older) born 1991 and earlier.
2.        Intermediate (12, 13, & 14 year old) born 1992, 1993, & 1994.
3.        Junior (9, 10, & 11 years old) born in 1995, 1996, & 1997.
Breeding Doe Classes:            $10.00 entry
§          All breeding does must be born on or after September 1, 2005.
§          Separate divisions are tentatively scheduled for: commercial and for Boer, Kiko, Spanish, and “All Other Breeds”(AOB) does. A minimum of five does must be entered within a breed for that breed to have a separate division. Breeds with less than five does will be pooled into an AOB division.
§          Depending upon numbers of entries, does may be divided at natural age breaks with a maximum number of ten does per class.
§          Registered does must be properly recorded with the appropriate breed association registry, and exhibitor’s name will be verified as owner on the appropriate breed association certificate to check-in.
Market Goat Classes:            $10.00 entry
  • Kids (wethers and does) will be divided by weight into classes of approximately equal size.
 
Show Order: Begins Promptly At 1:00 P.M.
  • Goat Showmanship – Senior, Intermediate, and Junior

  • Market Doe Classes
